Getting to Know Canaan John Dewey: A 10-Question Interview with the Up-and-Coming Actor

Q. Congratulations on winning the Best Supporting Actor award for your short film “Last Tonight”. What was it like receiving the award and what inspired you to create the character?

Thank you! Winning the award was surreal. I was absolutely honored and humbled to be recognized for my work. I was inspired to create the character of “Last Tonight” because I had recently read a script that was so powerful, I wanted to bring it to life in my own unique way. I wanted to immerse myself in the world that was created in the short film, and to portray the character in a way that was both compelling and truthful.

Q. You have appeared in a number of films, including “The Education of a Negro” and “Chirp, Buzz and Other Sensations”. What has been the most rewarding experience out of these projects?

The most rewarding experience out of these projects was the opportunity to truly inhabit a character and tell an authentic story. The collaboration between cast and crew to create something special was definitely a highlight. I felt like I had a real connection to the characters I played, and it was a great feeling to immerse myself in their lives and experiences.

Q. You recently finished work on short film “The 4th Branch”. How did you approach your role in this film and what was the most challenging part?

I approached my role in “The 4th Branch” by focusing on the story and character arc. I wanted to make sure that the character had depth and complexity, and that his journey was believable and relatable. The most challenging part was crafting a performance that conveyed the character’s emotional journey. It was important to me to make sure that the audience could connect with the character, and to portray him in a way that was both believable and captivating.

Q. What is your creative process like when taking on new roles?

My creative process when taking on new roles is to first read the script and get a sense of the character. I like to research the character and to try to get a better understanding of the world they inhabit. I also like to talk to the director and other actors to get a sense of the tone of the project. Finally, I like to create a comprehensive character background, including a backstory and motivations. This helps me to fully inhabit the character and to create an authentic performance.

Q. You are currently signed with Abstract Talent Agency. What made you decide to work with them and how has the experience been so far?

I decided to work with Abstract Talent Agency because I felt like they understood my vision and could help me reach my goals. They have been incredibly supportive and have provided great guidance and resources to help me succeed. It has been a great experience so far and I am excited for what the future holds.

Q. What would you say is your biggest strength as an actor?

I would say my biggest strength as an actor is my ability to connect with characters on an emotional level. I strive to create a strong emotional connection between the audience and the character, and to create performances that are both honest and compelling. I also believe in committing to the character and embodying them fully.

Q. What advice would you give to aspiring actors looking to break into the industry?

My advice to aspiring actors would be to stay focused and committed to your craft. Be open to learning new things and developing your skills. Believe in yourself and your potential, and don’t be afraid to reach out and network. Finally, don’t forget to have fun and enjoy the journey.

Q. What has been the most rewarding moment of your career so far?

The most rewarding moment of my career so far was when I won the Best Supporting Actor award for my short film “Last Tonight”. It was an incredible feeling to be recognized for my work and to know that I was able to make an impact. It was a moment that I will never forget.

Q. What projects do you have coming up in the near future?

I have a number of exciting projects coming up in the near future. I am currently working on a feature length film and a television series, both of which I am very excited about. I am also developing a few short films that I plan to produce in the near future.

Q. What do you hope to accomplish with your career in the future?

My ultimate goal is to create compelling and honest characters and stories that resonate with audiences. I want to be able to tell stories that are both meaningful and entertaining. I also hope to continue to learn and grow as an actor and to push myself to new heights.
