Vernon Little has just released an amazing new single “The Chance To Tell You” off his new EP entitled “Double Minded.” Hailing from the Bronx, New York, Vernon Little is a Holy Hip-Hop artist releasing the best Gospel inspired Hip-Hop you will ever hear. It’s is actually just great Hip-Hop, but because of it’s Gospel twist, Little has coined his own genre, Holy Hip-Hop. It works, the music is infectious, inspirational, fun, and has a great message to boot.
Q: First of all tell us about the start of your professional career?
I ended up at a local DJ’s-Joe Stick-apartment through a mutual friend way back in 1985. Joe had microphones and asked me if I wanted to rhyme. Being a fan of rap, I figured I’d just do what I had heard on the records. I continued going up there until one of Joe’s friends introduced us to a guy-Pete- looking to record a rap group. So, in 1986, I began recording songs.
Q: What advice would you give to beginners who are nervous?
Focus on your craft, network, stay in school, and if you have a job, keep working. I believe you’ll be better prepared when your breakthrough comes.
Q:When you decide it’s time to make a new record, is that more exciting or stressful?
It’s exciting to be able to share my thoughts.
Q: How easily do songs tend to come to you?
They come pretty easily; the structure is the hard part.
Q: What’s your motto or the advice you live by?
Keep God first, and everything will fall into place.
Q: What is you favorite song to belt out at the bar/in the car right now?
‘Everything’ by Nas.
Q :What are your future goals as a music artist?
I’d like to perform more.
Q: What was your most memorable performance to date?
It was at Rice high school in Harlem, N.Y. with my old group-Def Duo. I felt loose and free that night.
