Latest Interview With Talented Artist DANJUL

Breakout artist DANJUL is an unconventional artist on the rise with a flair for reinvention. Born in Inglewood, California and raised in Covina, he discovered his passion for music. DANJUL teamed up with producer Matthew Nelson to release his passion project, ‘Origin of Times’. The album was released with critical acclaim, receiving thousands of plays on streaming music channels.

Q: First of all tell us about the start of your professional career?

Danjul: The start of me professionally doing music started in 2009. In 2010 I met a newcomer producer named Matthew Nelson, and he helped me define my sound and really helped me craft my songwriting more. We worked on a 7 song EP and Disney heard it and gave me the advice I needed to pursue music even more! Before meeting Matthew I didn’t know if I was good enough. I just was curious and wanting to see if I could created a good song lol. I originally just wanted to do songs for movies. Particularly “Fantasy” movies.

Q: What advice would you give to beginners who are nervous?

Danjul: Nerves are good! It means you care about what you do. Just don’t let it overcome your creative spirit. Never give up…I struggle with that til this day honestly. So maybe I shouldn’t be giving advice hahaha!

Q:When you decide it’s time to make a new record, is that more exciting or stressful?

Danjul: It depends actually, if the producer I’m working with doesn’t grasp the track concept and makes me feel like I’m dumb than yes! But I’m a perfectionist, and music is honestly what keeps me alive..so it really depends. It’s both exciting & stressful. Exciting because, I get to tell another story from my life sonically, but stressful because I want it to sound perfect and be a actual great song. It’s about quality vs quantity for me.

Q: How easily do songs tend to come to you?

Danjul: Ummm, it depends lol. If I’m upset it comes easy…because I was never really able to express myself growing up, and people don’t care about how I feel. They still don’t actually. So songwriting is honestly my only way to express myself. And the people I want to tell off or convey a message to will eventually hear the song so mission accomplished right?! Haha!

Q: What’s your motto or the advice you live by?

Danjul: Always be kind, because you never know who the person you’re doing will become. Karma is a BITCH!

Q: What is you favorite song to belt out at the bar/in the car right now?

Danjul: I don’t go to bars lol but in the shower as of now….I honestly don’t sing as much. This year has been honestly the worse year of my life. The people around me don’t really notice or care. I’ve been depressed honestly, I lost my grandma in January…and 10 mins later my career starts?

Q :What are your future goals as a music artist?

Danjul: I just want to be a legit original male pop artist who brings joy and hope into peoples lives. When people hear my music I want a sense of escapism. I just wanna be great. I come from nothing and from a lot of abuse and neglect. Life hasn’t been the greatest…doing music saved me.

Q: What was your most memorable performance to date?

Danjul: I’ve never performed as an artist…I’ve been scammed a lot and this industry makes you not want to be an artist because there’s so much devil work involved. But my love for creating fights through and once again this year has been pure trash. Maybe next year? If I’m alive haha…..
